ALS Therapy Development Institute The 2130

Organize a 2130

By organizing a 2130 in your community you are joining with people from across the nation to take a stand against ALS. You are raising awareness and money, and helping to get one step closer to a cure.

We have some tips and tools below to help you get started. Good luck, be safe, and have a great ride!

Safety

Safety throughout your event should be the number one priority. Please review this section on Safety and familiarize yourself with the Rules of The 2130. All ride leaders must schedule and complete a 30 minute safety call with a 2130 rep.

THINK SAFE

Venue Selection

Every ride needs a Start Line and a Finish Line; this is what we're referring to when we say "Venue". There really is no wrong place to host a ride - it depends only on where you want to ride and the kind of event you'd like to have.

Choosing a Venue

Route Selection

There are many things to keep in mind when planning a route including traffic conditions, road conditions, hills, and construction. Have an idea of the distance you want to ride, and scout it out.

Selecting a Route

Rest Stops

If you are planning a ride longer than 35 miles you will need to have designated Rest Stops along your route. These can be something simple, like a convenience store, or more complicated with volunteers setting up and staffing an area.

Choosing a Rest Stop

Event Equipment

You will certainly need some basic event equipment in order to have a smooth event. Most of these items may seem like common sense, they can easily be forgotten!

Event Promotions

"Build it and they will come." People love getting together for a good time and a good cause, but you need to let them know! Luckily, we live in a time where this is easier than ever!

Promoting your Event

Volunteers

On large events like ALS TDI's Tri-State Trek (3 days/270 miles), volunteers are critical. But volunteers are very helpful at a small event, even one with with just a few riders going just a few miles.

In-Kind Donations

The 2130 operates on a 100% percent return to ALS TDI, and no participant fundraising money can be used for event expenses. This has not stopped events from serving water, sports drink, snacks, food and more! When asked, many organizations will absolutely help a good cause by donating product.
